Sony Classical celebrates both the look and the sound of the recorded legacies of conductor George Szell and Bruno Walter with the latest release of two newly created boxed sets featuring classic recordings packaged in CD-size reproductions of the original LP jackets. Featured are Szell's legendary cycle of the Beethoven symphonies and Walter’s equally renowned recordings of the music of Bruckner, Mahler and Wagner.
Each disc selected for The Original Jacket Collection retains the content of an original LP release from Columbia Masterworks – the forerunner of Sony Classical – with the recordings digitally remastered and packaged in replicas of the LP jacket. Each set contains a deluxe 84-page booklet with reprints of all the original liner notes. The Szell collection features a new essay about the recordings by Eric Kisch. The Walter collection includes new essay by noted Bruno Walter authority Erik Ryding.
All of the recordings are complete performances of major symphonic works. The Complete Beethoven Cycle dates from Szell's historic tenure as music director and principal conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra (1958-69). The Mahler and Bruckner set dates primarily from the 1950s and 1960s, a period in which Walter recorded exclusively for Columbia Masterworks with the New York Philharmonic and the Columbia Symphony Orchestra.

Sony Classical is proud to introduce two all new titles in the Original
Jackets series: Leonard
Bernstein and Vladimir
Horowitz.
The days of vinyl may be gone, but they're not completely forgotten.
Two new 10-disc deluxe box sets in the Original Jackets Collection
are devoted to two of the greatest names in classical music: legendary
pianist Vladimir Horowitz and American composer/conductor Leonard
Bernstein.
Housed in a sturdy unibox case, each set is presented as a limited-edition,
deluxe item, and each disc recreates the arrangement of repertoire
on the original LP. Some include bonus material, CD-Extra multimedia
presentations and compact disc debuts. In addition, each set features
newly remastered classic recordings, and extensive 72-page booklets
that offer an introductory original essay for the set by noted authorities
and excerpts from the original liner notes, all in three languages.
What better way to celebrate a century where great recorded music,
legendary performances and legendary artists became a part of the
daily landscape of modern life? The next two sets in the Original
Jacket Collection will not only appeal to aficionados but will serve
as an ideal introduction to these great documents of recorded music,
along with the first two Original Jackets collections featuring the
monumental works of Stravinsky
under the composer's own direction and the keyboard masterpieces of
Bach as performed by Glenn
Gould.
